FiSci Mitigate: Product Description & Scope of Capabilities
Overview
1
FiSci Mitigate is a cloud-based decision-support platform designed to help organisations understand, quantify, and manage bushfire and wildfire risk globally. By combining advanced computer modelling with historical data and local environmental factors, the platform allows users to test different "what-if" scenarios to identify the most effective ways to protect assets and communities across diverse landscapes, including Australia, the United States, and Canada.
Core Capabilities
2
Risk Visualisation and Mapping
Landscape Analysis: The platform provides high-resolution maps of vegetation types and current fuel loads across a defined project area.
Asset Tracking: Users can map critical infrastructure (buildings, power lines, roads) to see exactly where they sit in relation to potential fire paths.
Source-to-Impact Mapping: We identify not just what might burn, but where an ignition is most likely to start a fire that reaches high-value assets.
Predictive Modelling & Simulation
Fire Spread Simulation: Users can run simulations based on historical weather events (like a specific "Extreme Fire Danger" day) or future climate projections.
Mitigation Testing: The platform allows users to virtually "apply" treatments—such as prescribed burns, mechanical clearing, or grazing—to see how much they would reduce the intensity or spread of a fire before spending any money on the ground.
Probability Analysis: By running thousands of simulated ignitions, we provide a statistical understanding of risk rather than just a single "best guess."
Strategy & Financial Planning
Cost-Benefit Analysis: The platform can estimate the cost of various mitigation strategies and compare them against the potential value of the assets protected.
Long-Term Scheduling: Users can model how fuel loads will grow back over 5, 10, or 20 years to plan maintenance cycles.
Agentic AI Reporting
Automated Insights: The platform includes an Agentic AI Report Writer that assists users in synthesizing complex simulation data into structured reports.
Decision Support: This tool helps identify trends and draft executive summaries based on the project's specific data and simulation results.
What Mitigate Does NOT Do
3
To ensure the safety of our users and the integrity of our professional relationship, it is critical to understand the following limitations:
No Guarantee of Safety or Prevention
FiSci Mitigate is a decision-support tool, not a crystal ball. Bushfire and wildfire behaviour is inherently unpredictable and influenced by chaotic environmental factors.
We do not guarantee that following a prescribed strategy will prevent property damage, financial loss, or loss of life.
We do not provide "real-time" emergency directions during an active fire. The platform is for planning and risk assessment, not live fire-ground command.
Requirement for Professional Oversight (Human-in-the-Loop)
The platform is intended to assist, not replace, human expertise.
Review Mandate: All outputs, simulations, and suggested mitigation strategies—including any text or summaries generated by the Agentic AI Report Writer—must be reviewed, validated, and approved by a qualified fire behaviour analyst or bushfire management professional before any action is taken.
AI Responsibility: FiSci accepts no responsibility for the specific information produced by its AI reporting tools. The AI generates insights based solely on provided data and user prompts; it does not possess situational awareness beyond that data.
No Physical Implementation
FiSci is a technology and analytics company.
We do not perform physical works. We do not conduct prescribed burns, clear land, or manage livestock.
The implementation of any plan derived from the platform is the sole responsibility of the client and must be performed by qualified professionals in accordance with local laws.
No Certification or Expert Witness Services
No Certification: FiSci Mitigate does not provide official "safety certifications" for insurance, planning, or regulatory compliance purposes.
No Expert Witness: FiSci does not provide expert witness testimony or legal representations regarding the adequacy of a client's fire management practices.
No Substitute for Local Authority
Our models are designed to supplement, not replace, the expertise of regional fire services and land management agencies.
Clients must always consult with and obtain necessary permits from relevant government and emergency authorities (e.g., RFS, CFA, CAL FIRE, BC Wildfire Service) before taking action on the ground.
Data Dependency
The accuracy of all simulations and AI-generated reports is directly dependent on the quality and completeness of the data used (e.g., GIS files, asset values, and fuel data).
FiSci is not responsible for outcomes resulting from inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated information provided by the client or third-party sources.
No Automated Software Development
This service provides access to the platform as it currently exists.
The scope of an engagement does not include the development of new software features or custom coding unless explicitly defined in a separate Statement of Work.
